Over the summer we are running some classes for our dancers that have started feiseanna. See below what we are doing and what might suit your child:
Feis Classes
- Thursdays 5pm – 9pm
- This is for all children that have started completing in feiseanna.
All skills get rusty over time if we don’t use them – this includes dancing! It is unrealistic to expect children to be at the same level after a full 2 months off. We suggest the children who have started competing in competitions should go to all the Thursday classes they are available for. You can pay for each class individually.

The Blackbird / An Londubh
- Tuesday 25th June 2024 5:30 – 7:30pm. Parents return at 7:15 to see the dance
- For children that know their treble jig and can dance it on their own to the music.
The Blackbird is a Traditional Set Dance in hornpipe time. The dance has been preformed since the 1700s. It was performed by dancers and musicians that supported the Jacobite revolution and hoped that the rise of the Scottish Catholic Bonny Prince Charles to the Throne of England would lead to the return of a Gaelic Ireland.
It is an usual dance as the first part consists of 7½ bars, and the second of 15 bars. Most dances are be made up of 8 bar parts. It’s similar to the traditional hornpipe that we teach but the second part is know if having loads of rocks!

Treble Reel Shows Steps
- Monday 8th July 2024 and Monday 29th July 2024. 5pm – 8pm. Parents return at 7:45 to see the dance
- For children that know their treble jig and can dance it on their own to the music.
- Children can come to one of the classes or both.
When you see a professional Irish Dance show the dancers often preform a treble reel. This is a treble dance to reel music which is much faster than the jigs and hornpipes that we learn for competitions. The sound and the rhythm of the feet to the fast music is what makes this dance and these performances so distinctive and exciting.
